Grand Master Park and his staff are top notch. The school provides some of the best staff around who build confidence in their/our kids, teach the students the meaning of respect through structured training. Our daughter trained at Parks Tae Kwon Do for years and that great experience will support her endeavors. Thanks Grand Master Park and staff!

Like many people who start with TKD at a young age, I took a "break" after getting my black belt. A 20 year break. This year, I rekindled my love for this sport when I enrolled at Parks. This time around, I am practicing with my son. Grand Master Parks is right - it is kind of like riding a bike. What is even better than getting back into shape is that I get to share an activity with my son that I have loved since I was his age. Gabe is so excited for TKD and the disciplinary benefits are starting to sink in. Thank you for giving me the chance to share this with my son the way I used to share it with my own father.

We moved from Wisconsin to Boca about a year and half ago. My son Mikaeel was already doing Taekwondo in Wisconsin. He was able to continue at Park's from same belt rank. After a few months at Park's, he also decided to join the Elite team. Today it was my honor and privilege to see my 7 year old son getting his Sr Red Belt. This weekend was a great experience for us, and a very well organized event for Black Belt testing hosted by Grandmaster Park and his instructors. Best part was the belt ceremony, where Grandmaster honored Moms and had them give the certificates and belts to the kids.

Mikaeel's hard work, dedication, perseverance is a true testament of his instructors and masters. Looking forward to many more testings to come as he continues on his journey of becoming a Black Belt.

My mom signed my son up for classes mid September. It started as an investment to help build my son's confidence and disicpline. Besides the ethics side he loved it! He even more enjoyed having an uniform becoming a member. It has been a challenging experience but Parks is a phenominal individual and has made the experience much smoother for him and myself. It was very new for me as well. It's going on 8 months and he is now in red uniform and wears a yellow belt. He has equipment and weapons they utilize and learn in class. This step I can tell is a huge challenge for him. Remembering moves and steps, I am very excited to see him transition. We are from California so this experience is super awesome knowing back home we are limited to these type of sports and activities. I'm proud to be apart of the Park' s Taekwondo Family

Parks Taekwondo has only been a positive experience for my son. He has always been a good kid, but they have taught him not only self defense.... but self-confidence, respect and he's more outgoing. The instructors and masters are excellent! I love this place and highly recommend it.

My daughter Anika van Rooyen started with Parks in her kindergarten year as a very very shy girl that barely said anything. She enjoyed it so much and came out of her shell so much that she decided to work toward her black belt, and received her 1st degree black belt this past December 2016. She is also a Life member because her next goal is to be an instructor too. The instructors and Masters are amazing and motivate the kids constantly. I definately recommend Parks Taekwando.

Our friends referred us to this program and my kids love it! We had signed up for other martial arts programs in the area but this is the best by far. My 6 year old is doing a lot better with his focus and very attentive. My 9 year old absolutely loves it. It brings out the competitive spirit in him. We also love the Day camp and aftercare program! They pick them right after school at 2pm. So convenient for busy working moms and dads.

How to Bully-Proof Your Kid

Bullying has become an all too accepted fact of childhood. The way that we deal with bullying is changing, but not quickly enough to save the lives of some bullying victims. The hesitance of children to confide in adults is the fault of adults; all too often adults do not take bullying seriously, or children are afraid to “bother” their parents or caregivers. Nobody wants to be the hated tattletale, or experience even worse abuse from the bully or the bully’s friends. Even more, kids fear being judged by their family and friends as being weak, helpless, or a crybaby.

Let’s talk about the signs that your child may exhibit if they are a victim of bullying:

  • Injuries that cannot be explained by daily activities such as sports or other custom activities.
  • Consistently losing or damaging personal possessions, electronics, or books.
  • Changes in sleeping habits such as insomnia or nightmares.
  • Not wanting to go to school, or in older children and unwillingness to do homework and declining grades.
  • Avoiding social situations and friends that were previously enjoyed and sought after.
  • Exhibiting depression, anxiety, decreased confidence, engaging in self-harming, or suicidal ideation.
  • Changes in eating habits, decrease in appetite, or binge eating.

Moreover the understanding of just who is a bully is changing. The idea that bullies are edge dwellers with low self-esteem has been proven wrong. In fact, bullies are more likely to be seen by teachers and students as the cool kids while their victims are seen as social outcasts and troublemakers. Bullies have been found in some cases to exhibit intensely high self-esteem, blame others for their problems, lack empathy and compassion, and the worse their victims feel the better they feel.

Bully Proofing and Recovering from Bullying

Bully proofing your younger child and helping your older child to overcome the trauma of being bullied have a lot in common. In both cases children need to relearn the natural confidence they had as younger children. In addition they will also socialize in a controlled atmosphere with other children, some of whom have also been bullied. They will learn that they are not weak, that they are not losers, and that they are not worthless. Friends can make a tremendous difference in the outcome of a bullied child, a child with friends does not feel isolated and alone.

Martial arts taught by legitimate martial arts masters is not about teaching kids to hit or be violent, but to instill self-discipline, self-confidence, self-control, perseverance, integrity, respect, and strengthen their spirit. These are taught hand-in-hand with the physical aspect of Taekwondo. If your child has been bullied, please come talk to us and let’s start them on the road to recovery and a brighter future. If your child has not yet started school, it’s not too soon to start bully proofing them and give them a gift that will protect them for the rest of their lives. Best of all, they’ll find lots of new friends waiting to meet them.
